Commission approves North/South Prettyman Drive prefixes despite one objection

Discussion included an objection from one commissioner who said the name sounded like a joke and could cause confusion for emergency calls; another commissioner noted similar street names (Prettyman Drive/Avenue) exist in other U.S. locations. ‘‘They sound like a joke,’’ one commissioner said while suggesting a denial; the motion to approve the prefixes was made, seconded and passed by voice vote. The commission recorded the vote by voice and the motion carried.
The decision applies only to adding the directional prefixes; staff said the underlying name had previously been approved by the Planning Commission and the current action simply assigns the North/South prefixes for location clarity within the Carnes Crossroads development.
