Resident tells commissioners repeated hydrant strikes on Calvert Town Road pose danger; asks for speed controls

During the public-comment portion of the July 15 meeting, resident Warren Conley described repeated traffic incidents on Calvert Town Road that have damaged hydrants and endangered children and pedestrians. Conley said a hydrant near his home has been hit three times and that, overall, four hydrants in the area have been struck in nine years.
Conley said he has five children and called the site "a danger" for mail retrieval and for kids playing in yards. He asked the board to pursue speed-control measures. The board president said staff would reach out to the sheriff's office and public works to evaluate engineering, education and enforcement options and provided the county patrol commander's contact number for further follow-up. "We'll relay this information to them, and we'll also relate to public works from an engineering standpoint," the president said, adding the county would pass the information along to appropriate departments for action.
