Residents press council on 40th Street water repairs and speeding during public comment

"I noticed that you were working on some of the water up the street... So were they working on 48th Street to fix the water problem?" Nelson said while giving an address to the council. She also urged the city to address overgrown weeds along the curb and to continue following up on 40th Street repairs.
Terry Melendez told the council traffic on 40th Street "has just gone totally unhad" and said drivers regularly exceed posted speeds. "I think they're doing 60," Melendez said, describing the road as dangerous for pedestrians and children near the skate park and asking for stronger flashing signage or other measures to slow traffic.
The presiding officer said the council would pass comments to the streets department and the police chief for enforcement; staff later outlined a traffic-signal project at Madison and 40th as a longer-term safety measure.
