Board asks Ole Miss to provide pedestrian-detour plan for proposed Gertrude Ford sidewalk closure

Council members raised safety and game-day pedestrian concerns and asked whether the university will provide any pedestrian detour; John said he had not yet received a pedestrian detour plan and agreed to ask the developer for one and return the plan to the board for review. Staff noted the opposite side of the road currently lacks a sidewalk and said previously the city has used secured bike lanes with Jersey barriers as temporary pedestrian detours on similar projects.
No final action to permanently close the sidewalk was taken; the board directed staff to obtain and review a pedestrian-detour plan before further consideration.
