The board approved a fencing project aimed at bringing open campus circulation areas into compliance with Texas school safety standards. Staff said the RFP called for 670 feet of new 6-foot fencing, several steel gates and custom panels; the low bid from Onyx Construction came in at $45,725.
Staff explained automated gate operators were removed from the immediate scope (they would add roughly $20,000) and the current bid reflects manual gates. References for the contractor were checked, and trustees discussed keeping the package limited now with future additions as needed. A motion to approve the purchase and move forward with the project was made, seconded and adopted.
Staff said the work will improve perimeter control and safety for students while preserving access for service vehicles through designated swing and rolling gates. Further work (drive operators, additional closures) may be considered later depending on budget and priorities.
