Jake Badfield, the district's delinquent-tax attorney, briefed the board on how delinquent property taxes are handled, the timeline for turnovers and the firm's results for the past year.
Badfield said accounts typically turn delinquent after January and that the tax office attempts collection through July 1; if unpaid, accounts may be turned to his firm. For the July 2024–June 2025 cycle he said the firm collected $370,746 on behalf of the district, filed seven lawsuits and disposed of 19 cases (many through payment agreements or dismissals). He noted approximately $50,000 in account balances were tied to returned mail or bad addresses, which can delay legal resolution.
"Overall, we collected $370,746 on behalf of the school district," Badfield said, adding that the firm's fee is an add-on paid by taxpayers who do not pay on time and that collected revenue is remitted 100% to the district after collections.
