The Kensington Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to award firehouse roof repairs to JPW Construction after reviewing two bids that differed sharply in price.
Fire Chief Jeff DiBartolomeo told the board that Diamond Hill submitted a bid for $36,270 while JPW Construction’s estimate was $12,865. The board approved the motion "Approve JPW Construction estimate (~$12,165–12,865) for roof repair, contingent on insurance coverage," with Ian O’Reilly moving and Tom Balabon seconding; the vote was unanimous.
The chief said an insurance claim is underway but the coverage split between interior and exterior work was unclear; the award is contingent on clarification of insurance scope. The chief also noted prior satisfactory experience with JPW, which the board cited in supporting the lower bid. The board did not authorize work to proceed until insurance details are confirmed.
The selectmen did not schedule additional public comment on the item and did not add an amendment to the award. The motion passed at the meeting on June 8, 2026.
