Darien harbor has 243 moorings; Harbor Master cites wait list and enforcement after damaged mooring

Sam Bridges, Co‑Chair of the Advisory Commission on Coastal Waters, called the commission to order and invited Harbor Master John Keena to report on harbor operations.
"243 moorings are currently approved in Darien’s harbor waterways," Keena said, adding that "the wait list stands at 149 for all harbors" and that there are 15 moorings on "approval hold" while assignments await final paperwork or confirmation. Keena presented these counts as the baseline for ongoing harbor management and enforcement work.
Keena also described a recent enforcement matter: "A mooring in Ziegler’s Cove was damaged by a boat; witnesses provided emails, photographs, and testimony regarding the incident." He said the mooring has been repaired, he has spoken with the boat operator, and the town will bill the responsible party for repairs. The Harbor Master said identifying vessels and documenting incidents remains a priority for the Marine Division and commission oversight.
The commission heard no motion or vote on new mooring allocations at the July 16 meeting; Keena said revisions to day‑harbor mooring specifications are planned with Co‑Chair Flip Huffard to clarify what equipment is allowed in day harbors versus berthing harbors.
