Butler County approves $132,869 payment to Motorola for radio system upgrades; 4-1 vote

The Butler County Board of Commissioners on June 16 approved an annual service agreement and payment of $132,869.20 to Motorola to maintain the county portion of the statewide radio infrastructure.
Jeremy Seglem, Emergency Communications (E911) Director, told the Board that “in order to manage the statewide radio system the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) must maintain current software versions,” and that Butler County entered an equipment-matching contract with Motorola in March 2017. Seglem said the county will pay the full amount and invoice the Cities of Andover ($23,048.98) and Augusta ($17,086.67) for equipment at their dispatch centers.
Commissioner Jeff Masterson moved to authorize the commission chair to sign the agreement and allow the communications director to submit payment; Commissioner Kelly Herzet seconded. The motion carried 4-1, with Commissioner Dan Woydziak voting against. Board members discussed looking into alternative vendors for future procurements but took the payment action to meet current system and vendor requirements.
The agreement is part of ongoing maintenance to keep county radio sites compatible with the statewide system. No new funding source was identified in the discussion beyond the county payment and the plan to recover partner-city shares by invoicing them.
