Board approves $124,524 purchase of powered cots and load systems for ambulances

The Butler County Board of Commissioners authorized the purchase of two powered patient cots and power-load systems from Stryker for a total of $124,524 and allowed the EMS Director to sign purchase documents. EMS Assistant Director Scott Stueven said powered cots and load systems are industry standard, prevent injuries, and the units previously in use had reached the end of their service life.
Stueven explained the county had delayed purchasing the systems with two ambulances ordered in 2024 because the manufacturer warranty would start on purchase; staff elected to lock in a reduced RMA cost and proceed now. The approved purchase price of $124,524 includes a preventive maintenance agreement and training for three employees to perform minor maintenance. Commissioner Jeff Masterson moved for approval and Commissioner Dan Woydziak seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
Staff noted all nine ambulances in the fleet will eventually require powered cots and load systems; the current authorization covers two units to match the delivery schedule for new ambulances.
