Committee approves Section 5311 funding — roughly $390,000 — to support Project Now transit service

The Rock Island County Governance, Health & Administration Committee on April 13 approved an ordinance and resolution to accept and amend a Section 5311 grant and related Downstate Operating Assistance funding that will provide roughly $390,000 to Project Now to support the county’s public transportation service.
Jared VanTieghem explained the program during the committee discussion: "we use Project Now to handle our Public Transportation. This helps us fund about $390,000 that we would be giving to project now to help the fund the RICO World transit system." VanTieghem said the funding supports service to areas that lie outside the MetroLink service area, including trips to grocery stores, hospitals and employment destinations. Committee member Drue Mielke confirmed that the service covers areas more than about one mile outside the MetroLink boundary; Enyo Dewith asked whether trips to medical appointments are included.
The committee approved the package on a voice vote after brief discussion. The motion was made by Drue Mielke and seconded by Enyo Dewith. The action authorizes executing the Section 5311 grant agreement and related special warranty documents necessary for the county to receive and pass the operating funds to Project Now.
