Committee OKs multiple grants for first‑responder behavioral health, training and RIC SCBA equipment
Summary
Wyoming County authorized grant applications and acceptances, including permission to apply for a V Fire Grant up to $500,000 for RIC SCBA equipment and acceptance of up to $60,000 from NY CARES UP for first‑responder behavioral health programs; a $25,000 recruitment and retention grant for fire services was also approved.
The Public Safety Committee approved permission to apply for the V Fire Grant through NYS Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services for up to $500,000 to support the county’s Emergency Response Team and to purchase Rapid Intervention Crew SCBA equipment.
The committee also accepted a grant award with NY CARES UP / Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene for up to $60,000 (effective Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2027) to support initiatives aligned with the governor’s state priorities on enhancing readiness for mass‑violence events and first‑responder behavioral health. Separately, the county authorized a recruitment and retention grant contract with NYS DHSES for up to $25,000 to support fire service programming, leadership training and wellness initiatives for 2026.
All grant actions were approved unanimously and recorded as motions in the minutes.
