Mr. Boyer presented Mt. Rogers Community Services’ FY2027 funding request, explaining MRCS is mandated to request a 10% local match computed on a per-capita basis. He said the request from Grayson County is $209,093 and that it is not currently included in the draft FY2027 budget. Mr. Boyer noted the county remains roughly $580,000 from a balanced FY2027 budget and asked the board for guidance on how to proceed with MRCS and other outside funding requests.
The airport requested $56,000 for the upcoming year; Mr. Boyer said the county funded $19,000 last year as a minimum. Board members did not make final appropriation decisions during the work session and asked staff to present options for how to handle the MRCS and airport requests within the budget constraints.
Fire-rescue representatives in the room also asked for more help with grants and equipment, which Mr. Boyer said factors into staff prioritization and outreach for possible outside funding sources.
