County orders three Western Star plow trucks now to avoid expected price jump

County Engineer Matt Miller told the Public Works and Facilities Committee that manufacturers are changing engine options and body configurations for Western Star plow trucks, and that waiting past Aug. 1 would increase the cost by about $40,000 per truck. "The issue is if we order them after August 1st of this year the price goes up about $40,000 per unit," Miller said.
Miller said the county had budgeted to buy one plow truck this year under the 10-year plan but recommended ordering all three now and paying for one in FY2026 and two in FY2027 to lock current pricing. He also said the outgoing trucks use a Cummins 9-liter diesel engine option that is being phased out. The committee approved the motion to order and stage the purchases; the motion carried by voice vote.
