Jane Pentheny elected chair after two ballots; Andrew Lewis chosen vice chair

Jane Pentheny was elected chair of the Androscoggin County Commissioners on Jan. 21, 2026, after commissioners conducted two rounds of balloting. The first chair ballot ended in a 3-3 tie; on a second ballot Pentheny won on a 4-2 vote. Earlier in the meeting Commissioner Brian Ames had moved to table the vote until all members were present; that motion failed 2-4 (opposed: Lewis, Poirier, Abdirahman, Pentheny).
The board also elected Andrew Lewis as vice chair after two ballots. Roland Poirier nominated Lewis for vice chair while Brian Ames nominated Sally Christner; the first vice-chair ballot tied 3-3 and the second resulted in a 4-2 vote in favor of Lewis. The changes in leadership took place during the roll-call and organizational portion of the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
