Council approves concept planning contract to reassess City Hall, Library and Police space
Summary
Prescott authorized Cedar Corporation to conduct concept planning for a shared City Hall, Library and Police facility while keeping Fire/EMS at Flora Street. The study will reassess space needs, explore reuse and cost-saving options, and include department discussions; Alderperson Hintz requested inclusion of the Cable Department.
The council approved an agreement with Cedar Corporation to update municipal facilities concept plans for the Police Department, Library and City Hall. The action builds on a January 2024 Municipal Facilities Needs Assessment and subsequent council workshops; the council previously decided to split the overall program and keep Fire/EMS at its existing Flora Street location while exploring a shared facility for City Hall, Library and Police.
Cedar’s work will include conceptual design, reuse and renovation opportunities, site layout and updated cost opinions. Alderperson Hintz asked that the Cable Department be included; Cory Scheidler of Cedar Corporation said discussions will include all departments. Alderperson Otwell asked about the future of Public Works and whether City Hall would be demolished; City Administrator Matt Wolf said the current City Hall has a solid foundation and was not slated for demolition. The council approved Resolution 38-26 by roll call.
