Wildfire coalition presents R327; La Pine staff asked to pursue adoption

Les Adams introduced himself as the La Pine representative for the Wildfire Neighborhood Coalition of Deschutes County. Robin Church of Project Wildfire presented the R327 proposal, describing it as a building-code package intended to reduce wildfire risk to new dwellings and to lower displacement and economic loss for residents.
Church listed jurisdictions that have supported R327 and said the code would help 'reduce economic losses and displacement, and [help] create a more resilient community.' Community Development Director Brent Bybee told Council that R327 includes building-code standards and suggested Planning staff coordinate with wildfire partners to pursue local adoption; Council asked staff to move forward with that coordination.
