Residents back striping on 69th Street; council to refine reconfiguration plans for Shell Island

The council also discussed a potential reconfiguration of the Y-intersection at the Shell statue into a T-intersection to improve sightlines for westbound drivers.
Councilmembers debated whether to proceed immediately with striping for safety or delay stripe installation until a broader plan wrapping all improvements from Tomahawk to Belinder is finalized. Councilmember Dan Sullivan and others urged prompt striping to improve safety, while Councilperson Bill Bruning urged a brief delay to produce a complete plan that addresses sidewalks, trees, and club property impacts. Mayor Weed asked staff and traffic engineers to return in March with a firm recommendation, costs and drawings.
