Commission tables bylaws update after discussion of attendance, removal and training language

Associate Planner Johanna Blanco presented a redlined draft of Planning Resolution 09-2026 proposing updates to the Planning Commission bylaws, including attendance rules, removal from service, procedures for filling vacancies and appointments, and updated training requirements. Commissioners discussed the timing and phrasing of the training requirement and whether removal for unexcused absences should read "shall be removed" or be revised to "may be removed." The commission voted to table the resolution for additional revisions; Chair Kya Marienfeld moved to table the item and Commission Member Jill Tatton seconded. The motion to table passed unanimously.

Commission Member Conant raised a requirement that commissioners participating electronically must announce themselves; Community Development Director Cory Shurtleff clarified that required training may be completed throughout the calendar year and staff agreed to clarify language to reflect a one-hour required administrative training. Staff will return a revised draft for further discussion at a future meeting.
