The Millcreek City Council voted unanimously April 27 to adopt Ordinance 26-19, which regulates and prohibits fireworks within designated areas of the city, including riparian corridors identified as high fire risk.
Assistant Chief Zach Robinson presented regional comparisons and Millcreek's 2025 baseline for the council's consideration. Council Member Thom DeSirant recommended expanding the restrictions to include riparian zones such as the area near Scott Park and the Shady Brook neighborhood because of dense vegetation and limited access. Chief Robinson noted that, if adopted, "the council had the ability to make any necessary changes based on current conditions." Council Member Bev Uipi moved to approve the ordinance and Council Member DeSirant seconded; the Recorder called a unanimous vote in favor.
Why it matters: the ordinance narrows where residents may legally discharge fireworks to reduce wildfire and public-safety risk in corridors with heavy vegetation and limited emergency access.
