Historic Preservation Commission moves forward on Preservation Utah walking tour, assigns stops

The Springdale Historic Preservation Commission on March 5 advanced plans to place town properties on the Preservation Utah Tours App and assigned commissioners to document individual stops.
Zoning Administrator Kyndal Sagers said the Preservation Utah Tours App "was a self-guided mobile platform that helped residents and visitors explore Utah’s historic architecture, cultural sites, and local stories," and that the partnership would begin as a two-year agreement following a Town Council approval on Feb. 11, 2026. She told the commission site entries must be at least 50 years old and that staff would need to contact private property owners for permission.
Commissioners discussed concerns about access to some properties and emphasized that tour wording should highlight historical significance without promoting current businesses. Assignments recorded by staff included: Springdale Town Jail (Commissioner Judi Rook), O.C. Tanner Amphitheater (Commissioner Heidi Madsen Lee), Historic Tithing Granary (Commissioner Robert Carlton), Historic Irrigation Ditches (Commissioner Lee), Historic Under the Eaves Inn (Commissioner Jean Krause), Historic Mormon Church (Commissioner Rich Levin), Historic Rose Cottage (staff), The Pioneer Restaurant (Commissioner Krause), The Spring (Commissioner Krause), and Historic Worthington Gallery (Commissioner Lee).
Next steps include drafting a tour name, a tour description and introduction, a tour image and estimated walking duration, and assembling site-stop details (stop name, age, architect if known, address, description, and photos) for review at a future meeting.
