"The request would bring in about 345 people from the waiting list," Angie said, and she added the numbers could change during the session. DSPD also described a proposed peer support program modeled on a Utah Parent Center pilot, which DSPD officials said had demonstrated positive outcomes in 10 life domains and could serve about 279 families in the current year as an entry‑point to community resources rather than an ongoing long‑term service.
DSPD staff also encouraged providers and families to work with advocacy organizations (Utah Parent Center, Utah Developmental Disabilities Council, Legislative Coalition for People with Disabilities) to support legislative advocacy. The division noted it has commissioned a rate study and continues to solicit contractor feedback on reimbursement rates while distinguishing the separate issues of access to services (waiting list) and the adequacy of contractor reimbursement rates.
