The Middletown Common Council voted unanimously on Sept. 19 to approve the recommended candidate for a finance leadership post, confirming Nicoletta McTighe after a public interview and follow-up questions from council members. The meeting packet and clerk's call described the vacancy as a deputy-level position in the Office of Finance and Revenue Services; the resolution presented to council used the term assistant director of finance. The council adopted the appointment effective upon adoption.
McTighe, who introduced herself to the council as "Nicoletta McTighe," said she has "been in the municipal, auditing accounting arena for about 27 years" and has audited more than 30 Connecticut towns and cities. Justin Richardson, the city's director of human resources, told the council the posting ran from July 30 to Aug. 8, produced 17 applications, 11 of which were judged qualified, and seven of which were interviewed; Richardson identified McTighe as the chosen candidate. After the motion and a second, the Chair called for the vote and the appointment passed unanimously.
Council members asked McTighe about her priorities if confirmed. She said she plans to "learn the intricacies and the details" of daily operations, assess the city’s financial system and internal controls for needed improvements, and focus on staff training and supervision so the department runs more efficiently. McTighe also stated a longer-term personal goal: "Eventually, I would like to be the finance director of the city."
