Council approves 20-inch waterline design and construction contracts for southern Grand Prairie

Council approved an amendment to the engineering contract and a separate construction contract for a 20-inch waterline to loop and increase redundancy in the city’s southern water distribution area; staff said the project has been on master plans since 2005 and EGW Services LLC was the low bidder.
Noreen Housewright, director of public infrastructure, told the council the project will design and construct a 20-inch waterline to loop the rapidly growing southern portion of Grand Prairie and provide redundancy. “This project consists of design of a 20 inches waterline, to loop the water distribution system in the rapidly grown southern section of Grand Prairie,” Housewright said, noting the project has appeared in master plans back to 2005 and that 24 firms bid on the work.
Housewright said Freese and Nichols is the engineering consultant under an amendment (item 13) and EGW Services LLC submitted the low construction bid (item 19). Council moved and separately approved the engineering amendment and the construction contract on the dais.
Staff described the objective as improving system hydraulics and resilience by adding redundancy and multiple delivery points to better prepare for unexpected events.
