Board trims parimutuel share to 20% and extends Events Complex distribution agreement through 2030

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the 2026 County Historic Parimutuel (HHR) Events Distribution Agreement with the Sweetwater County Events Complex. The approved agreement reduced the county’s prior 30% share down to 20% and extended the term through Dec. 31, 2030 to align with the Events Complex’s agreement with Wyoming Horse Racing.
Chairman noted the change responds to the Events Complex’s request to use distribution funds more broadly on grounds and arena improvements; Candy, who said her board has approved the agreement, told commissioners they plan to prioritize exterior repairs to the indoor arena using the combined HHR funds and Wyoming Horse Racing’s annual capital match (about $150,000 per year). "We have given up on the idea that we can do it all in 1 year... our plan is to sort of prioritize that and just start with the north end," Candy said. Commissioners retained previously committed capital projects approved last year but removed the Events Complex’s new capital ask from county capital requests going forward; operating funding was left largely unchanged in the board’s budget discussion. The board authorized the chairman to sign the agreement.
