Public hearing set for Aug. 25 on new private sewage disposal ordinance

Elizabeth Townsend, Jackson County's environmental health director, asked the board to schedule a public hearing on Aug. 25, 2026 at 9 a.m. to consider a new private on-site sewage disposal system ordinance intended to replace county ordinances 250 and 88.
Townsend told the board the draft ordinance will cover state requirements but said she is waiting for specific materials from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and will circulate a PDF of those changes when received. A motion to set the public hearing was moved and seconded and carried without recorded opposition.
The hearing will allow public comment on the proposed ordinance before the board considers adoption; Townsend indicated staff will provide the DNR updates to supervisors in advance.
