City staff and commissioner updates: Barnes shifting duties; Commissioner Eric Bell reports role change

Christie Barnes, the community and culture officer, told the commission she will not be attending in person for at least the next 10 months while Abby Fenton assumes communications responsibilities. "I am not gone. I've not disappeared off the face of the earth, still doing the work," Barnes said, asking colleagues to keep her included in communications while Fenton transitions.
Commissioner Eric Bell told the group his role will change because his department in Austin will now report to an assistant city manager; he said the reorganization was announced to him that morning and that he expects to take on additional responsibilities as a result. The commission thanked Bell for his service and discussed the process for filling any vacancy should he step down from the commission.
