Friends of Hutto Public Library formalize nonprofit status, outline fundraising plans

Lacey Ransom Hudson, president of the Friends of the Hutto Public Library, told the Library Advisory Board that the group has completed its paperwork and consolidated records to operate as a formal nonprofit.
"So we became official, 1 number," Hudson said, adding that the Friends are establishing a bank account, centralizing records on a shared Google Drive and separating bylaws and roles. She named Liz as the organization's treasurer.
Hudson listed recent Friends expenditures that directly supported library operations, saying the group paid for Wi‑Fi printing, a CPR class licensing fee, a storytime rug and children's chairs, earbud packs, lock boxes for book‑sale cash handling and shirts for the teen advisory board. A fundraising raffle for two quilts raised ``over $800,'' a board member said.
The Friends also reported about 41 paid members and a membership coordinator who is consolidating contact lists and outreach. Hudson said the group plans a website, newsletter and ongoing outreach to businesses and community partners to expand support.
Board members and Friends agreed to regular updates: the Friends will provide progress reports at future advisory meetings and take the lead on outreach and sponsorship solicitation ahead of the next Friends meeting.
