City staff proposed a schedule of proclamations through June and identified community partners to participate in receptions and displays. Christie Barnes said the city could host a reception and display for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month — "we would love to... host the reception on March 5 at 6PM" — to coincide with a council meeting night and to showcase art from the ARC Capital Area's Hutto campus.
Commissioners agreed to sponsor or draft proclamations when community partners do not submit them; last year the commission handled several proclamations and staff offered to surface previous language. The group also discussed assigning commissioners to sponsor upcoming observances (Women's History Month, Autism Awareness, Memorial Day, Juneteenth) and noted mayoral approval is required after the commission drafts the text.
