Hutto commission launches veterans, small-business and seniors working groups; consultant to train volunteers in March

Stan Kimmer, a consultant with Total Engagement Consulting, told the Hutto Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Commission that the first step of the implementation plan is three focused working groups to gather resident input. "So basically, 1 of the major steps in the execution plan is to launch and start our 1st 3 working groups," Kimmer said, explaining the groups will meet at least every other month and each will have a DEIB commissioner as a liaison.
Kimmer said the volunteer response was strong: "We got 6 for veterans, 6 for small business and 7 for seniors." The commission agreed commissioners would serve as liaisons (Nikki Williamson volunteered for the veterans group; Corina was named for seniors; Eric Bell was tentatively listed for small business pending confirmation). Kimmer proposed multiple training sessions and a recorded three-hour orientation for new commissioners and council members during the March 10–12 window to avoid Hutto ISD spring break.
Commissioners also discussed roles and expectations for the working groups: staff will assist with logistics, space and setup, while community volunteers will lead discussions, collect notes and report back to the commission. Kimmer said he will prepare orientation materials and a short discussion guide to support an initial February "get-to-know-you" meeting before formal training.
