Board members announced two upcoming community assistance events: the annual mayor's backpack giveaway on Saturday, August 8 at the South Bay Pavilion in Carson Mall starting at 10 a.m., and a fresh-produce food giveaway at Callas Park courtesy of Venice Clinic on August 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events require Carson residency and are first-come, first-served.
"The backpack giveaway will take place this Saturday, which is August 8. It will happen at the South Bay Pavilion Carson Mall. The backpack giveaway will begin at 10AM. So 1st come, 1st serve," Board member Thomas said. On the food giveaway, a board member said attendees are "guaranteeing to take away at least 2 large grocery bags of fruits and vegetables when you come out." The meeting also included brief recaps of recent outreach events: one speaker said a recent backpack distribution gave out 300 backpacks and that the inaugural Clean and Green Festival drew more than 500 people.
