Health department reports vaccine clinics under way; notes two local pertussis cases

Staff characterized the exercise as roughly half complete.
Kleiber also gave a communicable disease update, reporting that pertussis (whooping cough) is increasing across the state and that Vernon County had two confirmed cases as of Oct. 8, 2024 (one pre‑school age and one school age). Wastewater surveillance for COVID‑19 was reported as low. Kleiber said the department is applying for a Narcan direct program and reminded the public that RSV vaccination is available for people over 60, pregnant women and certain infants; NHS‑style access was noted for uninsured or underinsured patients through the county clinic.
The board received the reports as informational; no formal public‑health emergency declaration or new restrictions were enacted at the meeting.
