Marshall County approves purchase of rock windrower to speed gravel shoulder reclamation

Assistant County Engineer Bruce Dieken told the board the machine "will be pulled behind a tractor and used to reclaim gravel and remove vegetation that accumulates along the shoulders of gravel roads," pulverizing sod and organic material so reclaimed gravel can be reused for maintenance and after ditch-cleaning.
The motion text in the minutes lists the purchase price as $13,444.48. The minutes also contain a separate line where Dieken's presentation references $13,448; the difference appears to be a transcription or rounding discrepancy in the minutes. The board approved the purchase by motion of Christian Goodman, seconded by Carol Hibbs; the minutes record the vote as 3-0.
Dieken said the county does not currently own this type of equipment and expects it to improve efficiency versus using a motor grader alone; Supervisor Goodman noted the equipment should help address resident concerns about shoulder maintenance. The minutes state the unit is in stock and should be available for delivery soon.
