Marshall County supervisors on July 1 approved an A-3 local disaster declaration related to severe storms that struck the county on June 17, 2026. Emergency Management Assistant Matt Vogeler told the board the governor signed a state disaster proclamation on June 24, and the county declaration — which the board adopted by a 3-0 vote — is required to allow residents to seek state Individual Assistance.
Vogeler told supervisors the declaration "remains in effect for 30 days and allows eligible residents to apply for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program within the established application period." He reported that damage estimates received so far range from several thousand dollars to well into six figures, and that Marshalltown Municipal Airport sustained the most significant reported damage. Vogeler also said three households had been referred to the American Red Cross after being displaced.
The board's approval preserves residents' ability to apply for state aid. Emergency Management continues to monitor applications and coordinate with state updates; Vogeler said the county has received only a small number of assistance applications to date.
