Vernon County Health Department reports ‘HIGH’ COVID wastewater signal, outlines preparedness exercises

Health Officer Amy Kleiber briefed the board on preparedness activities and recent disease surveillance during the Sept. 11 meeting. The department participated in a month-long "Preparedness Bright Horizon Recovery Exercise" with Emergency Management beginning Aug. 20; the exercise convened four times over the month and the department plans to complete an annual influenza planning and school preparedness exercise within 30 days.
Kleiber also reported that wastewater monitoring classifies local COVID-19 transmission as 'HIGH' and noted a recent uptick in hospitalizations related to COVID. The department said public handwashing stations deployed at music-in-the-park events were well received and that similar stations will be used at the Vernon County Fair to promote hygiene and reduce disease spread.
