Vernon County Board of Health approves coroner fee increase, forwards budgets to finance

At its Sept. 11 meeting the Vernon County Board of Health voted unanimously to raise coroner fees for 2025 and to forward the coroner and public-health budgets to the county finance committee; a WIC contract amendment for 2024 was also approved.
The Vernon County Board of Health approved multiple administrative measures during its Sept. 11 meeting in Viroqua, including a coroner fee increase and the forwarding of two departmental budgets to the county finance committee.
Under the coroner's report, Health Officer Amy Kleiber presented August statistics and the board voted to increase coroner fees for 2025 to $89 for cremation plus $29 for signing, for a total coroner fee of $118. Duane Koons moved to accept the fee increase and Sherrie Seidel seconded; the minutes record the vote as "all ayes" and the motion carried. The board also approved forwarding the coroner 2025 budget to the county finance committee after Cassandra Hanan presented the proposed budget; Lonnie Muller moved to forward the budget and Sherrie Seidel seconded.
Separately, the board reviewed public-health expenditures (Amy Kleiber reported the public-health budget was at 55% of expected expenditures for the year) and moved the proposed 2025 Public Health budget to finance (motion by Duane Koons, second by Kevin Walleser; all ayes). The board also approved a WIC contract amendment to the current 2024 budget; Duane Koons moved and Frank Easterday seconded the resolution, which the minutes record as carried.
The board handled routine business as well: it accepted the August minutes (motion by Frank Easterday, second by Sherrie Seidel) and adjourned at 2:03 p.m. after a motion by Easterday and second by Walleser. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the Sheriff's Department Training Room.
