David Vanden Avond and Jason Daye showed site‑condition analyses and options for consolidating shop functions to improve efficiency. "Evaluation included current site conditions and limitations, and options for future growth," the presenters said during the briefing.
Staff and consultants emphasized several site‑selection constraints, including retention pond requirements and a target location size of about 35–40 acres to accommodate long‑term operations. As staff noted during discussion, "To remain on existing site, the expansion would require the purchase of 21 lots and vacating a street," a step that would add cost and complexity. Committee member Al Sleeter told the group the ideal site should provide a minimum 75‑year service life.
Committee members and staff reviewed plow‑time coverage maps; staff said the US‑141/STH‑22 corridor offered the best long‑term response times, but four county‑owned parcels within two miles of that corridor were ruled out for safe equipment access. The committee asked staff to continue identifying properties that meet operational and access criteria and to return with refined options and cost estimates.
