Commissioners approve second-reading rezoning for 11 county utility parcels to Public Service

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved an ordinance on second reading that rezones 11 county-owned utility parcels to the Public Service (PS) category.
Gordon Smith of the St. Johns County Utility Department told the board the request covers a variety of utility properties — including elevated storage tanks, booster sites, a water plant and a sewer plant — and said the parcels have been used for government services for many years. "We're here today to request this 2nd reading for administrative rezoning of 11 parcels that are owned by St. Johns County and used for government service," Smith said.
The board conducted the routine ex parte check required for quasi-judicial matters, opened public comment on the item and heard none, then moved and seconded the ordinance. Chair called the vote and recorded "that passes 5-0." Staff said they would update county records and zoning maps following adoption.
The change reclassifies existing county utility facilities to a public-service zoning designation to reflect their ongoing government use; staff indicated the action is administrative and does not immediately change facility operations.
