Sweetwater County commissioners on April 21 unanimously approved two budget amendments brought forward by county staff.
Accounting specialist Rebecca Romero told the board the assessor's office needs an additional $25,000 for professional MAP services and recommended financing the increase by drawing down general fund reserves. Romero then described a larger request tied to Title 25 services: "The average expense so far this budget year has been approximately $35,000 a month," she said, and requested a $100,000 appropriation to ensure funding through the end of the budget year.
The board opened both items for public hearing; no members of the public addressed either amendment. Commissioner Jones moved to approve the Title 25 increase, which passed unanimously. The board likewise approved the $25,000 amendment for the assessor's office. The amendments will be recorded as Resolutions 26‑04‑CL‑04 (assessor) and 26‑04‑CL‑05 (Title 25) in the county's minutes.
The funding source for both changes is a reduction in general fund reserves. County staff said the Title 25 request responds to continuing medical and transport costs tied to involuntary commitment and related services and that pausing action would risk service interruption.
