Commission discusses removing $3,000 perpetual-care interest from operating budget
Summary
Commissioners debated whether to treat $3,000 in interest from Perpetual Care as annual operating income, and agreed to consult the Trustee of Public Funds and the town treasurer before taking a motion in November; an adjusted 2027 budget figure of $56,873.20 was discussed as a placeholder.

Williamstown commissioners debated the proper treatment of $3,000 listed as "Interest from Perpetual Care" and whether that line should be included in next year’s operating income. The investment company’s position that interest should not be used to augment annual operating revenue was cited, and commissioners discussed alternatives: move $3,000 to the town allocation, remove a corresponding maintenance expense, or draw on Trustee Fund resources for projects.
Matt Couillard said he would consult with the Trustee prior to the next meeting and noted that the commission has $16,000 available for projects; commissioners tentatively adjusted the 2027 budget to $56,873.20 pending clarification from Orvil (Trustee) and Jennifer (Treasurer). No final motion was made; members agreed to revisit the line at the Nov. 20 meeting.
