Commissioner Varnatico, who identified themself as an LGBTQI+ student program coordinator at Central Oregon Community College and a commissioner, proposed an immigrant-focused proclamation to "celebrate and kind of outline our stance on its immigrant population" and said they were specifically "thinking about those that are targeted currently by ICE."
The subcommittee agreed the idea merits research and outreach to community groups; members assigned themselves to the worksheet Melissa Kamana will create and will seek potential recipient organizations before drafting formal language for HREC to review by the Aug. 31 internal deadline.
