Haisha Elaine, the St. Louis poet laureate, recapped a busy July that included appearances at the Maddie arts festival, co-hosting stages and panels, and rehearsals with Jazz St. Louis musicians. She described bringing poetry into larger music events and securing four paid slots for poets at an upcoming festival stage.
"This was probably one of the best poetic experiences of my creative life," Haisha said of her weekend at Maddie, and she told members she worked to ensure poets received paid performance slots and equal marketing treatment. Haisha also said she will appear on Spectrum News tied to a commissioned poem for the Brickline Greenway and will be honored by Bread and Roses on Aug. 20.
