Howard Kuntz, the newly appointed director of Development Services, introduced himself to the Planning & Zoning Commission on Feb. 3 and urged commissioners to consider professional development opportunities that could align with the city’s budget cycle. Kuntz said he planned to meet individually with commissioners and encouraged attendance at the state planning conference and the national APA conference in Houston, stressing the value of curated training tracks for board members.
"I am the new director of development services here for the city of Hutto," Kuntz said in his opening remarks and then described timing and estimated travel costs for the conferences. He told the commission the city has limited travel funds and asked members to begin thinking about whether they could attend. Commissioners responded with positive recollections of prior APA conferences and asked about virtual options and timing; staff said they would circulate details as they become available.
Kuntz also asked commissioners to attend the city’s annual all‑boards meeting on Feb. 28 as an opportunity for introductions and discussion of shared topics. He said staff will follow up via email with conference information and meeting requests for one‑on‑one conversations.
