Hutto council reviews 'wish list' survey showing grocery-store gap and dining demand

David Hamzler, the city’s Executive Director of Strategic Operations, presented results of a community "wish list" survey at the Hutto City Council work session on Jan. 8, saying the survey collected more than 2,000 completed responses and is intended to guide the Economic Development Corporation's strategic planning and recruitment efforts.
"We had over 2,000 completed responses," Hamzler said, adding the survey ran about 30 days and was designed as a pulse check rather than a fully weighted sample. He cautioned the results should be used as directional input and combined with parking feasibility and site readiness when prioritizing recruitment and incentives.
Councilmembers pressed for more numerical detail and for a simple, numeric handout to accompany the report; Hamzler agreed to provide an updated breakdown, including age-group parsing, after the meeting. Staff also noted the city plans to adopt a new data platform to improve ongoing collection and analysis.
