County accepts BLM right-of-way grant offer for County Road 25 (Hiawatha Road)

Public Works Director Gene Legurski described a long-standing culvert failure and told commissioners the BLM offered a right-of-way grant that would cover the full road corridor for County Road 25 (Hiawatha Road). He said the road is important for oil-and-gas activity and recreation and that BLM recommended the county apply for the full right-of-way rather than only a short construction strip; the board approved the grant offer and authorized the chairman to sign.
Legurski said the route had an RS 2477 designation in the 1970s and that the BLM’s turnaround on offering the grant was unusually quick. Commissioners had no further questions and approved the motion by voice vote.
The county will sign the right-of-way grant offer and coordinate with BLM on any restoration or repair work required to stabilize the culvert and the roadway.
