Sweetwater County approves Laios Drive reconstruction contract to Madsen Construction

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners voted May 5 to award the Laios Drive (County Road 1243) reconstruction contract to Madsen Construction LLC in the amount of $1,577,436.28, Public Works Director Gene Legurski told the board.
Legurski said engineers produced four geotechnical options and the county solicited bids as a base-plus-all-alternates package to identify the “best bang for the buck.” He recommended Madsen Construction as the low responsive bidder and said the project will be funded from fuel-tax money. “I know I have an amount here an amount of $1,577,436.28,” Legurski said during his presentation.
The motion to award was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners also approved a related temporary construction easement with Bodek Holdings LLC to accommodate drainage and curb-radius work needed for the reconstruction.
The contract award authorizes the chairman to sign necessary documents; Legurski said the county evaluated bid irregularities and deemed them inconsequential to price and performance. Work scheduling, mobilization and specific start dates were not discussed during the vote; Legurski indicated the project will follow standard contract and permitting steps.
Next steps include final contract execution and coordination with adjacent property owners to complete the easement work before construction.
