Kalkaska Board approves Kaliseum job descriptions, fee changes and equipment purchase

Kalkaska County commissioners on Feb. 18 approved a set of staffing, fee and equipment items affecting the Kaliseum and Parks and Recreation operations.
The board adopted a non-union wage scale that sets the Parks and Recreation Director salary at $58,656.00 and the DPW Supervisor at the same salary; it approved the Parks & Recreation Director job description and a Kaliseum Administrative Assistant job description. Motion by Scott Matley (supported by Comai) also authorized Resolution 2026-13 to lift the hiring freeze to fill a part-time Kaliseum front desk vacancy. The minutes show the board voted 6-0 with one absence on these items.
The board approved fee changes: golf simulator rates at $30.00 per hour, batting cages raised from $10.00 to $12.00 per hour, group rates increased from $50.00 to $60.00 per hour, civic center rental to $300.00 per day, and other Kaliseum fee adjustments to be reviewed later for ice-arena and pickleball. The board also approved language to allow elimination of the Kaliseum Director position when the county administrator deems appropriate, not to exceed 30 days from the Parks & Recreation Director hire.
Separately, commissioners approved a $33,680.00 quote from BAMPSCO International for gym equipment to be paid from account 585-805-911.000. The board recorded all votes as six yeas, zero nays, one absent.
