IMO headquarters to host small UN agencies as a London UN hub, secretary‑general says

"Soon, we will be start housing some of the small UN agencies that are based here in London," Dominguez said, describing a plenary that can seat about 870 delegates and office space for roughly 325 staff. He said the change is tied to the UN‑wide UN80 initiative and will make the building "more of a UN building rather than just the IMO building."
Dominguez framed the move as a space‑optimization and multilateral coordination measure intended to strengthen cooperation among specialized agencies. He said the host government’s location choice—on the River Thames—helps maintain a maritime link even within a land city and that the facility is "purpose built" for large meetings.
The announcement follows remarks throughout the interview stressing IMO’s regulatory role and its work with member states. Dominguez said the facility will support meetings and the Secretariat's work on regulations, member state assistance and engagement with external stakeholders.
