Council voices concern that many nonprofits may lack capacity to run large events

Several council members said they worry many nonprofits lack the money, staff or experience to run large city events and urged a conservative, staged approach. One councilor said, "I just feel a little concerned that... I can't see a whole lot of nonprofits being able to take on a big project like this right now," and asked that the Feb. 18 session include clear criteria and a checklist for interested organizations.
Councilors suggested steps to reduce risk: initial internal vetting before wide outreach, reporting requirements and after-action reports from partner organizations, periodic license reviews and the development of standard operating procedures so knowledge is not lost if partners change or staff turnover occurs.
