Sweetwater County accepted a $10,000 grant from the Dickey Foundation on Feb. 17 to purchase an unmanned aerial system (UAS) to support first responders.
County staff told commissioners the Dickey Foundation award is intended to assist firefighters, EMTs, frontline medical workers and law enforcement; the project requires a county match of $5,401 for a total budget of $15,401. The project budget includes the drone, associated equipment, a streaming service and flight-logging software. "This funding will be used to purchase unmanned aerial system or one of them and requires a $5,401 contribution from the county for a total project budget of $15,401," the presenter said. The board accepted the grant and recorded a unanimous voice vote; staff noted the county has already received the check and no contract execution was required.
